Sally Whittaker's involvement with The Genesis Appeal

Coronation Street star, Sally Whittaker, has been a great supporter of ours here at Genesis for over a decade.

After attending several fundraising events for Genesis Sally got involved and several months later she agreed to become more closely involved with the charity and subsequently became one of our most active patrons.

Throughout the years, Sally has attended and been photographed at launches of various projects such as the Genesis Rose, Keep Fit and Pink events, and the opening of the Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention Centre in 2007. Also in 2007, Sally agreed to become the 'face of' a Genesis campaign with Lloyds Pharmacy.

Coronation Street fans were no doubt shocked to hear that Sally's on-screen character will soon be facing her own battle with breast cancer. The residents of Weatherfield are rocked after Sally discovers a lump in her breast.

When she heard that she would be portraying a storyline already so close to her heart, Sally immediately contacted us. With the help of Lester Barr, breast cancer specialist and chairman of The Genesis Appeal, Sally conducted in-depth research about breast cancer in all its forms, plus the many varieties of treatment.

We're immensely grateful to Sally for all the work and continued effort that she's invested to help publicise us here at Genesis, and our efforts to make one in ten, none in ten.
