Introduction

The key components of a healthy lifestyle.

Many women want to know what they can do to reduce their risk of breast cancer.

The Genesis Appeal believes that diet and exercise can dramatically reduce rates of breast cancer and could therefore prevent 1000’s of women suffering and even save many lives.

The "Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention Diet",
written by Dr Michelle Harvie draws on evidence from the Genesis Appeal’s researchers and from other specialists in nutrition, cancer prevention and genetics, to explain how women can take control of their lives and limit their risk of developing this terrible disease.

Only 5% of breast cancer is directly linked to high risk genes, the majority of cases can be linked to risk factors during our lives, such as putting on weight, what we eat, lack of exercise, whether or not we have children and the use of hormone tablets.

The decision to have children or to use hormone treatments will be driven by many factors, but there are many other lifestyle choices women can make to protect themselves from cancer.

We hope that our Recommendations will provide you with further information on how to lead a healthy lifestyle and reduce your risk of developing breast cancer.
