Volunteer for the Genesis Appeal

The new centre opened in July 2007 and is now fully operational.  The Genesis Appeal wishes to provide a range of information, advice & support services to patients, families, carers, friends and the general public on all aspects of living with breast cancer. It is our mission to put the patients and public that we serve at the heart of everything we do.

The Genesis volunteers will contribute their time, experience and knowledge to every aspect of the new centre. We hope to have a minimum of 100 volunteers supporting the service by working shifts and reporting to a designated Volunteer Coordinator and department line manager. All volunteers will be given an induction and site orientation. For specific roles training will also be given.

Volunteer Requirements

  • Must be sixteen years of age
  • Commit to volunteer regularly for shifts of three to four hours
  • All volunteers will be required to undergo Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) Checks and to complete a Health Questionnaire

Once on board, volunteers will be asked for regular feedback and work evaluations. Within the general recruitment of volunteers we hope to target the local community for specific individuals - patients, students, nurses and other professionals who can transfer their skills into designated roles that will support the patient’s journey through the centre.
