Genesis Needs You

Listed below are just some of the opportunities available.

Administration

Help out with basic administration duties for one of our research projects such as filing, photocopying and database entries. The shifts are to suit but Monday to Friday.

Bucket Collections and Bag Packing

We need a team of volunteers to be available to help out as and when we have dates at football grounds, supermarkets and town centres who would be willing to hold collection buckets or pack shopping in supermarkets. You will need to be able to stand for 2 to 3 hour shifts.

Collection Box Volunteer

We need a team of volunteers who are willing to be responsible for a number of collection boxes in their local area. This would involve sourcing a site to place one (eg a pub or local store) and regularly collecting and replacing them and returning the full ones to the centre. No money handling would be involved as the collection boxes are brought back to the centre sealed.

Coffee Shop

Work in our Centre Coffee Shop, serving a variety of drinks, sandwiches and confectionery. Some food handling and working with hot water is involved as well as money handling. There are two shifts 0915 to 1300 and 1300 to 1600. Basic food handling skills required.

Community Event Volunteers

Often we need Volunteers to help out at an event by attending as a representative of the Charity to accept a cheque or say a few words.
Full training will be given.

Event Publicity Volunteer

Volunteers needed to help out with the distribution of posters, flyers etc to promote our major events such as the walk. This may involve going into large companies and distributing literature. You would need the use of a car for this role and be willing to pick the literature up from the centre.

Event Volunteers

Throughout the year Genesis organises a variety of fabulous in-house events from sponsored walks to our annual ladies lunch. All require rely on our volunteers to promote and assist with the organisation. Our biggest fundraiser, The Genesis Keep Fit & Pink Day on 6th June requires registration, flow and walk marshals. All volunteers play a vital role in the success of the event and help create a fantastic atmosphere.

Our 'in-house' events would not be possible without our dedicated volunteers. From dressers to waiters, from marshals to registration staff, there is nothing like the excitement of a live event.

Gardening

You will help maintain the gardens around the centre. Hours to suit on a Monday to Friday. Some basic gardening required.

Genesis Ambassadors

We are carefully selecting dedicated Genesis Ambassadors from across the North West and beyond. Our ultimate goal is to enlist passionate people in every village, town and city who can spread our message and raise vital funds from within their local communities. Click here for more information about the Genesis Ambassador Project.

Merchandise Stall Holder

You will assist the Charity by running a stall at an event, for example a Christmas Fair or such like. You would need to have the use of a car and be able to pick up the merchandise from the centre and return the unsold items at the end. If you would like to undertake this role but are unable to set up the stall please still contact us as we do need more than one volunteer at most events.

Welcome Desk

Meeting and Greeting patients and visitors in the Nightingale Centre. The desk operates Monday to Friday 0900 to 1600. There are two shifts 0915 to 1300 and 1300 to 1600. There is also a shop within the welcome desk selling merchandise so some basic arithmetic skills required.

To become a volunteer you must be 16 years of age and be willing to undergo a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check and a health screening.
